University of California, Sacramento students have heard rumors and different stories of who the Togo's sandwich and soda man is, however, many do not know his real story.
You might hear him as your walking from the union to class or walk up to him and buy a sandwich and soda from him on a regular basis.
"I hear him when I walk to class everyday, and he always makes me smile when he is yelling sandwich and soda," says Kristen Aye.
This well-known man may seem happy every time you walk by him, however, he has a very sad and interesting story of how he became the sandwich and soda man.
He came here in 1989, from Shanghai, China, to recieve an education.
Three years later he had graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and had been married just a year after that.
After starting a family, getting his dream job, and a six figure a year pay the unexpected happened.
One day while at home with his family, he had a massive stroke.
"I talk to the sandwich and soda guy on a regular basis. He told me his whole life story, and the saddest part of it, was when he told me that his wife and family left him crippled and alone after his stroke," said Justin Stewart.
After the stroke, the doctors told him that he would be stuck in a wheel chair his whole life.
Not only did his wife and family leave him but his job felt he could no longer preform the duties required.
The sandwich and soda man told them that he can work and walk, and fought his way back to health.
He began selling Togo's sandwich's at a local University, and fell in love with it.
"I love being around students everyday, it is so refreshing to see young people who want an education," he said.
The sandwich and soda man got his life back in a rewarding way.
